Effective date: October 6, 2026
1. Agreement
These Terms of Service ("Terms") are a contract between you and [COMPANY LEGAL NAME] ("Mealnomics," "we," "us"), governing your use of the Mealnomics mobile app and mealnomics.com (together, the "Service"). By creating an account or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you don't agree, don't use the Service.
2. What Mealnomics is
Mealnomics helps US households plan a week of dinners (and, if you turn it on, breakfasts and lunches) around a budget, a grocery store, and each household member's diet and allergen needs, and builds a shopping list from the plan. Prices shown are estimates — they vary by store and region and are not a quote from any specific store.
Recipes you receive have passed an automated validator (seasoning present, step timing present, quantities within sane bounds, diet/allergen tags consistent with ingredients). Recipes requested through the in-app "swap" feature are drafted by an AI model (Anthropic's Claude) and then checked by the same validator before you see them.
Food and allergen disclaimer: Mealnomics is a planning tool, not a substitute for your own judgment. Always check ingredient labels yourself, especially for allergies. AI-drafted swap recipes, like any AI output, can be wrong — review the ingredient list before you cook, particularly if someone in your household has a food allergy. Nutrition figures are estimates, not medical or dietary advice; talk to a healthcare provider about your specific dietary needs.
3. Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old to create an Mealnomics account. Mealnomics is not directed to children, and only the adult account holder may add household member profiles (which can include a child's first name for meal-planning purposes — see the Privacy Policy, Section 6).
4. Accounts and households
- You sign in with Sign in with Apple or Google. We don't support separate passwords.
- The person who creates a household is its owner. The owner's subscription covers the household on up to 3 devices; additional members join with an invite code.
- You're responsible for what happens under your account, and for keeping your device and sign-in secure.
- The owner can remove the household's data by deleting their account (see Privacy Policy, Section 7).
5. Subscriptions and billing
Mealnomics offers an auto-renewing subscription with two plans:
- Mealnomics Annual — $39.99 per year, with a 3-day free trial.
- Mealnomics Monthly — $9.99 per month.
How billing works:
- Payment is charged to your Apple ID, Google Play account, or (on the web) via Stripe, depending on where you subscribed.
- Your subscription automatically renews at the end of each period unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends.
- If you start a free trial and then purchase a subscription, any unused portion of the free trial is forfeited at the moment of purchase.
- You can cancel anytime from Settings, which opens your Apple ID or Google Play subscription management, or directly in your Apple/Google account settings. Canceling stops future renewals; you keep access through the end of the period you already paid (or, for a trial, through the end of the trial).
- Restore purchases is always available in Settings if you reinstall the app or sign in on a new device.
- We may change prices for future subscription periods; where required, we'll give you notice before a price change takes effect.
Refunds: purchases made through the Apple App Store or Google Play are refunded by Apple or Google under their own policies — we don't control or process those refunds directly, but once a store processes one, your access ends. Purchases made through Stripe on the web are refundable by contacting support@mealnomics.com.
6. Acceptable use
Don't: share your account or invite code to get around the 3-device household limit for unrelated households; abuse the recipe-swap feature (it's limited to 20 requests per household per day); reverse-engineer, scrape, or resell the Service; upload unlawful, abusive, or infringing content in free-text fields (exclusions, support messages); or interfere with the Service's operation or security (including its row-level-security model).
7. Your content
You own the household, member, and preference information you enter. You give us a license to use it to operate the Service for you (build your plan, process a swap request, respond to support) as described in the Privacy Policy. You're responsible for what you type into free-text fields (exclusions, support messages, swap requests).
8. Intellectual property
The Mealnomics app, recipe corpus, and underlying software are owned by [COMPANY LEGAL NAME] or our licensors. We grant you a personal, non-transferable license to use the app for your household's own meal planning. You may not copy, redistribute, or create a competing service from the recipe corpus or app content.
9. Termination
You can stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms, misuse the Service, or abuse the swap/trial systems. If we terminate your account for cause, we may not refund unused subscription time.
10. Disclaimers
The Service is provided "as is." We don't guarantee that recipes, nutrition figures, or price estimates are error-free, that the Service will be uninterrupted, or that it will meet every dietary restriction perfectly — always verify ingredients yourself, especially for allergies. To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied.
11. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, [COMPANY LEGAL NAME] will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for any damages relating to a food allergy, dietary reaction, or health outcome arising from use of a recipe. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Service is limited to the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. [Owner/lawyer to confirm this cap and whether any carve-outs are required in your jurisdiction.]
12. Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of [GOVERNING LAW / JURISDICTION — TBD by owner and lawyer; the company is UK/EU-based but the Service targets US consumers, so this needs a deliberate choice], without regard to conflict-of-laws rules. [Owner/lawyer to add a dispute-resolution/arbitration clause if desired — none is included in this draft.]
13. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms. We'll update the effective date above and, for material changes, notify you in the app or by email before they take effect. Continuing to use the Service after changes take effect means you accept them.
